Sony skips a generation, announces Xperia Z4 tablet at MWC 2015

The Mobile World Congress fever is high, and Sony has brought a nice tablet to the table. The Japanese OEM hasn’t brought a successor to the Xperia Z3 though, making it all that much less interesting. The Xperia Z4 tablet is here though, succeeding the Xperia Z2 tablet.

The main highlights of the Xperia Z4 tablet are the IP68 certification. Sony is the only OEM consistently launching products with some sort of IP6x or IP5x certification. The IP68 certification for the Xperia Z4 tablet means that it is dust proof and water resistant up to 30 minutes in 1.5m of water. That should cover most of the accidental water damages that users normally face.

Moving on to the specs, the Sony Xperia Z4 tablet is incredibly thin at 6.1mm. It’s thinner than most of the phones out there and is probably the thinnest tablet out there. There is a 10.1 inch IPS LCD display improved by Sony’s Triluminos technology and X-Reality Mobile engine. At a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, the pixel density is around 300 PPI, which is sufficient.

The Xperia Z4 tablet is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, the flagship processor from the American chipset company. The Snapdragon 810 is a 64-bit processor, consisting of 8 cores – 4 Cortex A57 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz, assisted by Adreno 430 GPU.

There is an 8 MP camera on the back and a 5 MP snapper on the front. The Xperia Z4 tablet comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable memory. There’s a huge 6000 mAh battery that should keep the tablet charged for a lot of time.

Sony also announced a bluetooth keyboard, a tablet cover and a bluetooth speaker. The company hasn’t revealed pricing for the tablet and the accessories just yet, but they should all become available worldwide starting June.
