AMD announce Carrizo and Carrizo-L SoCs, to be ready in 1H2015

The SoC space is certainly heating up as Intel has started making strides into the market while players like MediaTek are capturing lot of market share in low-mid range. AMD Carrizo, the first high performance System-on-a-Chip (SoC) from the company and Carrizo-L, the mainstream SoC are officially announced. Carrizo and Carrizo-L are going to be crucial to AMD’s growth in 2015 and are designed with gaming, productivity, UHD 4K experiences in mind. Carrizo and Carrizo-L will support Microsoft® DirectX® 12, OpenCL® 2.0, AMD’s Mantle APIAMD FreeSync. Both SoCs support upcoming Windows 10 operating system. Both the SOCs will start shipping to OEMs in 1H2015 and notebooks/All-in-One systems powered by these APUs will be released by mid 2015.

Carrizo comes with x86 CPU Excavator and AMD Radeon graphics processor. AMD says that this is world’s first Heterogeneous Systems Architecture 1.0 compliant SoC. Carrizo-L on the other hand integrates Puma+ CPU with Radeon R series GCN GPU. AMD has also integrated “Secure Processor” into both APUs and this enabled ARM TrustZone for additional security.

We are excited about the experiences these new APUs will bring and look forward to sharing more details in the first half of next year.
