Apple Macbook Pro top model costs as much as Maruti Suzuki Swift car, here’s why

Apple Macbook Pro lineup was updated overnight with new processors and some insane configurations. The top of the line MacBook Pro now costs $6,799. That’s around 5L INR if you do a direct conversion. For that money, you can get a decent hatchback car in India. If Apple brings this configuration to India, it will cost a lot more and you can get a powerful hatchback or an entry level sedan like Honda Amaze. Does this mean that the new top end MacBook Pro is overpriced? We do not think so. Read on to know why!

Long lasting life and top notch support

Apple MacBook Pro laptops are known for really long life. There are many who have used a MBP for nearly a decade. Many go with Apple Care extended warranty plan for as along as Apple allows extension of warranty. That gives the MBP owners peace of mind for atleast half a decade. The quality of components on these laptops is top notch and you can feel it when you start using one. When compared to brands like Dell, HP, Acer etc, Apple after sales support has been a class above. Imagine that you have a top end laptop that is highly reliable and on top of that, you get after sales service that is best in industry.

Mind blowing configuration

This is what you get for $6,799:

  • 15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit display with IPS technology; 2880-by-1800 native resolution at 220 pixels per inch with support for millions of colors.
  • 2.9GHz 6-core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 4.8GHz, with 12MB shared L3 cache
  • 4TB SSD
  • 32GB of 2400MHz DDR4 onboard memory
  • Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for charging, displayport, USB 3.1 gen 2 devices
  • Full Size backlit keyboard
  • Touch bar with integrated Touch ID (fingerprint) sensor
  • Ambient light sensor
  • Force Touch trackpad with pressure sensitive drawing and multi touch gesture support.
  • 83.6Wh battery, up to 10 hours of web browsing, up to 10 hours of movie playback
  • Weighs just 1.83kgs

For those who are not aware of the power of these components, that CPU has 6 cores and can go up to whopping 4.8GHz speed and that is some serious CPU power for those who does lot of rendering and designing. Add to that 4TB (yes, terabytes) of solid state drive space, Radeon Pro 560X professional graphics card and 32GB of RAM and you get mindblowing processing power. Do note that this is not meant for those who need a notebook to do some programming and surf the web. This is meant for serious professionals who perform graphic design, video rendering etc. You can edit multicam projects in Final Cut Pro X with up to nine streams of full-resolution 4K video on the 15-inch MacBook Pro.

Breathtaking display that produces accurate colors

The display on the top end Apple MacBook Pro comes with 2880×1800 resolution. Thanks to DCI-P3 color gamut support, designers can be assured that the colors displayed by the MBP display are accurate. For artists and for designers, color accuracy is extremely important. Without they, what they see as one variant of red may turn out to be a different variant of red when it is printed (an example). Also, for those who work in medical imaging, color accuracy and wide color gamut support matters a lot.

Next generation security

Apple T2 chip is second generation custom design chip from Apple that makes Apple MacBook Pro even more secure. Featured on the 13- and 15‑inch models with Touch Bar, the Apple T2 chip includes a Secure Enclave coprocessor that provides the foundation for secure boot and encrypted storage capabilities. It also consolidates many discrete controllers, including the system management controller, audio controller, and SSD controller, into one. And the Apple T2 chip brings a familiar voice to MacBook Pro — Hey Siri is always ready to open apps, find documents, play music, or answer your questions.

Built in MacOS and updated every year, free of cost

Every MacBook Pro comes with MacOS bundled and is updated for many years without any charge. My 2012 Mac Mini, for example, is currently running beta version of MacOS Mojave (slated to release later this year) and I have not paid a single rupee in these 6 years for OS updates.
