Apple Macbook 12 upgraded with Skylake chips

Apple Macbook 12, the super thin and port-less ultrabook form factor mac from Apple is now powered by Intel’s 6th generation Skylake based Core M chips. Rose Gold color has made its way into the MacBook 12 too and it looks awesome in the photos. There was lot of negative feedback on the Macbook 12 for lack of ports. This year, there was hope that the upgraded Macbook will get some ports, in-line with MacBook Air but Apple is not interested in adding any ports to the MacBook 12. Similar to previous model, the 2016 MacBook 12 will have a single USB Type-C port. There is no other port on the MacBook 12 and charging is done using the same port. The 2016 model is alaready available in USA with starting price of $1,299 (Intel Core M3, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD). The Intel Core M7 variant with 512GB SSD is priced at $1,599.

“MacBook is the thinnest and lightest Mac we have ever made and it’s our vision for the future of the notebook,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are going to love this update to MacBook, with the latest processors, faster graphics, faster flash storage, longer battery life and a beautiful rose gold finish.”

The Intel Core M3 chip is clocked at 1.1GHz while the Core M5 is clocked at 1.3GHz and both chips come with Turbo Boost speeds (up to 3.1GHz depending on the chip variant). The memory is clocked at 1866MHz. Apple has managed to increase the battery life of the MacBook 12 to 10 hours (10 hours of wireless browsing or 11 hours movie playback). The new Intel HD Graphics 515 has improved graphics performance by up to 25%.

Every new Mac comes with OS X El Capitan, the latest version of OS X that refines the Mac experience and improves system performance. El Capitan builds on the groundbreaking features and beautiful design of OS X Yosemite, with updates to window management, built-in apps and Spotlight search, and performance improvements to make everyday activities – like launching and switching apps, opening PDFs and accessing email – faster and more responsive.
