OnePlus One now has an official Lollipop ROM

OnePlus One, the controversial smartphone, now has an official Lollipop ROM. The company, OnePlus, has released the ROM on its forums. Be advised though, you should be rooting and installing ROMs manually only if you can get back to the stock ROM safely.

OnePlus One Lollipop

The ROM, based on Android 5.0 Lollipop has been built from AOSP will be OnePlus’ official custom ROM, as weird as that sounds. The company itself is developer friendly, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. They had an official custom ROM based on KitKat as well, before Lollipop was a thing.

Since this is still in alpha stages, bugs are bound to be there.

  • Data roaming is on by default. Make sure to turn if off to avoid potential charges.
  • As always, flashing a custom ROM incurs the risk of bricking your phone. Make sure you know what you’re doing and backup everything.
  • Camera and video may be unstable. This build supports 4k video, however quality may be low as we are still fine-tuning the camera.
  • Capacitive keys do not turn off when you enable software keys.
  • Clock crashes periodically.
  • If using the new app pinning feature in L, make sure to turn on the software keys first. Otherwise, you will have to reboot your machine.
  • On first boot, startup time will be a bit slow. Rest assured we will speed things up in the future.
  • Wi-Fi may be unstable.
  • This build is not eligible for OTA updates.

This ROM news shouldn’t shock you – OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc. have an agreement wherein Cyanogen Inc. provides the software for OnePlus’ hardware. Recently, however, the latter entered into an exclusive agreement with an Indian company, Micromax. This virtually prohibits any other company using (currently, the only other company to use Cyanogen Inc’s software is OnePlus) Cyanogen OS from entering the Indian market (and other peripheral markets).

You can find the ROM on OnePlus’s forums.
