Celebrating Earth Day, Belkin reiterates the need of managing E-waste in India

Lets face it! E-Waste is a massive headache in India. Mobile devices have extremely short life and then are discarded like any other waste instead of returning the device to those who clear e-waste in right manner. According to Belkin, in the year 2015, 90% of e-waste was managed by using informal and unscientific means and this can cause irrepairable damage to environment and to human health. To manage the e- waste in India, the government has also amended the rules of disposing and recycling the electronic products to protect the planet.

When it come to mobile accessories, Belkin is one of the most trusted brands in the world. Ahead of International Earth Day, Belkin has shared its concerns over inefficient waste management scenario in India. The current scenario is causing alarming rise of solid waste generation per capita.

It is disheartening to know that Indian cities generate approximately 1.7 lakh tonnes of solid waste on a daily basis out of which not even 2 lakh tonnes reach the licensed recyclers. It is more depressing to witness metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru alone generates around 9000 metric tonnes, 8300 metric tonnes and 1 lakh metric tonnes of waste respectively. Moreover, by 2020, India’s electronic waste is estimated to reach about 52 lakh tones in 2020.

Belkin is one of the most active tech- companies in the world to participate and carry out activations related to sustainability of the planet Earth and preservation of its resources. The environmental initiatives undertaken by Belkin since 2009 have resulted in 25% reduction of Green house emissions. On top of this, Belkin had installed 518 solar panels on building rootops and energy efficient motion light sensors, reducing 37% electricity consumption in all of its offices.

Belkin has recognised the need of managing e-waste in India and finding mechanisms to contribute in the reduction of its adverse impact on planet Earth. The present efforts of Belkin are bringing a change in their surroundings each day.
