Lenovo S580 announced for India – 5” HD display, Rs. 8,999

Lenovo has announced a new member in its S series of phones, and the newest member is called the Lenovo S580. Playing by the new fashion of going exclusive with an e-tailer, the company will make the S580 a Snapdeal exclusive.

Lenovo S580

The Lenovo S580 is aiming for the budget smartphone buyers. It packs in a 5.0” IPS LCD HD display, but runs on the 17 months old Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with custom UI on top
  • 5.0” IPS LCD display, HD resolution, ~294 PPI
  • 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 200 processor
  • 8 MP camera, LED flash; front facing 2 MP camera
  • 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card
  • Dual SIM (dual stand-by), Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
  • 2,150 mAh battery

Lenovo has competition from a lot of quarters, including a phone (Moto E) from its own company, Motorola. The S580 does come out on top in two important aspects – the camera and the display, but then again, it uses Android 4.3 which is 17 months old now, and there’s no guarantee that it’ll ever see an update. The Moto E has a better future and runs near stock Android, which means it has fewer things to waste resources on.

The other competitors are the Android One phones, but it remains to be seen if enough people are buying them.
