Google Photos released with unlimited free storage for HQ photos and videos

Lots of stuff was being announced by Google today at the I/O 2015 conference, but one of the more user facing announcements was the unlimited cloud storage backup for high quality photos and videos. Google Photos, the new photos app, features this and is available right now for Android, iOS and web.

The biggest takeaway from this is that Google is taking away the lowly 2048px limit from unlimited photos backup which was a part of Google+ auto backup. This is now extended up to 16 MP for photos and 1080p for videos. If you were not using Google to backup your photos and videos, you will now.

One more neat feature about this new Google Photos app is the ability to send a bunch of photos as a web link to anyone. If the receiver is signed in to their Google account, they can import all of the photos to their account by simply pressing the Cloud icon. If the receiver is not signed in, they can still view the photos and download them at a lower resolution.
