IDC: Xiaomi tied with Samsung in Q3 2017 smartphone sales in India

Global technology leader Xiaomi has become the number one smartphone vendor in India in Q3 2017, as per IDC IDC’s latest Quarterly Smartphone Tracker, Q3 2017. With a market share of 23.5% and having shipped 9.2 million smartphones in the quarter, Xiaomi has climbed up the ladder to become the number one smartphone brand in India. The company has also become the fastest growing smartphone brand in India with a growth rate of nearly 300% percent year-on-year.

Three out of the top five smartphones in Q3 2017 were Xiaomi smartphones — Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A. With four million units shipped in the quarter, Redmi Note 4 continued its legacy of being the number one smartphone even after nine months, since its launch in January 2017. This is proof of the  smartphone’s appeal due to its powerful performance and beautiful design, and this is what has ensured its continued market dominance for three consecutive quarters.

Xiaomi’s three-pronged strategy for expanding its offline business through Large Format Retailer partners, Mi Preferred Partner stores and Mi Homes led to doubling of the company’s offline sales in Q3. The company also continued its leadership in the online smartphone market with a significant 51% market share. Xiaomi’s phenomenal record of four million units sold between 20th Sep to 19th Oct, combined with the unparalleled success of Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A, has contributed considerably to the company’s rapid growth.

Manu Jain, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, “Within three years of our entry into the Indian market, we have been able to achieve a never-seen-before feat of market dominance. As far as we are aware, we are the first brand across all sectors to have become a market leader within such a short span of time. Xiaomi’s focus on providing innovation to everyone and our commitment to the Indian market have propelled us to success on this incredible journey. We have truly innovated across our products, business model, infrastructure, marketing methods and, combined with our efficient team of 350+ employees, we have been able to achieve this immensely significant milestone.”

Xiaomi entered India in July 2014 and has since disrupted the smartphone industry with an aim to provide innovation for everyone in terms of technologically advanced and high-quality products. With the Redmi series, it has redefined the sub-10K category of smartphones, providing Mi Fans with a wide array of options for smartphones with unmatchable features.
