Mi Max 2 launched in India for Rs 16999

The first Mi Max got a good reception in the Indian market. It was an ideal buy for people looking to buy a tablet cross-over. When Hugo Barra launched the Mi Max, he spoke at lenght about the choice of 6.44 inch display. At first, I did not agree with him, but when I held it in my hands, I realized that there was a lot of depth and meaning about 6.44 being the ideal size 😉 for a display. Larger mobile does not mean anything if it’s not sturdy. The Mi Max was just about the right size and it has quite a number of a fan base. Mi Max 2 is a direct successor to Mi Max and it retains the same size and form factor.

Here are the striking difference between Mi Max and Mi Max 2

  • Mi Max 2 is marginally heavier and thicker by a hairline, compared to Mi Max
  • It runs on Android 7.1.1 out of the Box with MIUI skin on top
  • It has Snapdragon 625 which is less powerful, but better optimized for battery consumption, compared to Snapdragon 652
  • It has 12 MP sensor while the Mi Max had 16 MP, but the sensor size is larger and promises better low light performance.
  • Mi Max 2 has USB-C Port
  • It has a huge 5300 mAh battery, while the Mi Max had 4850 mAh battery

Here are the other key specifications of the mobile

  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 625
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB | 128GB
  • Display: 6.44" FullHD
  • Camera: 12mp rear | 5mp front
  • OS: Android 7.1.1

The mobile will be available matte black color. It will be available to buy on on all major online and retail channels from 27th July for a price of Rs 16999.

My first impressions

Though having a 6.44 inch display, the rounded edges and soft matte finish back makes the mobile easy to handle with one hand. The display is bright and vibrant. The camera looks promising. I will have to use the mobile for a longer period to come to a conclusion. But this looks to be a promising mobile.
