Mobile phone revenues shows clear domination by Samsung and Apple

If you want to how badly all mobile phone manufacturers (feature phones + smart phones) are hit in past few years by the rise of Samsung and Apple, this one graph says it all. The graph shows quarterly handset revenues for top brands (chinese brands excluded) from Q1 2010 to Q1 2013. Apple was way below Nokia’s earnings in Q1 2010 and three years later, Apples handset revenue is many fold higher than Nokia’s. Also notable here is the growth of Samsung. While Apple’s saw rise-fall-rise-fall cycle, Samsung’s revenue has been going in one direction only, UP (except for one quarter which saw tiny fall)!

The graph also solidifies the general opinion on how insignificant other brands have been in last two or three years. While LG started showing signs of growth in past year, every other manufacturer has their revenues falling for past two years or so. This year though, we should see some healthy growth for LG, Sony and if all goes well, for HTC. Apple on the other hand is expected to see their revenues in mobile division fall this year (and if the speculation of low cost iPhone is true, it might fall faster than many think). Lets just wait and watch how the year folds on and we do wish the companies like HTC and RIM do a U-turn and see green in revenues.
