Motorola has sold 2.5 million phones via Flipkart

The company that retreated from the smartphone market in India, Motorola, has made its mark felt again in India. Starting with the Moto X, and then expanding to the Moto G and the Moto E, the company has sold 2.5 million smartphones via Flipkart. These numbers are for the 5 months of Motorola’s second innings here.

You’d do good to remember that the only sales channel Motorola has utilized is Flipkart – its online and Flipkart-only strategy has paid off very well, pushing other smaller companies to offer their new phones via the online channel exclusively. While Flipkart has not provided a breakup of the numbers, it’s easy to guess that the Moto E and the Moto G have the biggest shares. The company, now owned by Lenovo, has 5 phones on sale on Flipkart, but the Moto X (2013) was never a great seller. The Moto G truly started the engines, with the Moto E later revving it up even more. The Moto G still remains an excellent option – both the first gen and the second gen versions of the phone provide great value at those price points, and the fact that Motorola doesn’t tinker with stock Android except for its few useful apps makes the phones even better. You get the speed, UI, smoothness of stock Android at these price points, something which no other company can deliver.

To celebrate this feat, Flipkart and Motorola are going to hold a couple of giveaways – five winners get gift vouchers worth Rs. 50,000 each, and 100 lucky buyers will get 100% cashback when they buy one of the Motorola phones.
