OnePlus 5T takes over the baton from Oneplus 5

OnePlus 5T has been launched after 4 months from Oneplus 5 launch. There has been a lot of speculation and anticipation for the Oneplus 5T and it was also leaked extensively. Yet the love for Oneplus and the anticipation for this new device never dropped a bit. The newly launched Oneplus 5T is priced at Rs 32999 for the 6 GB / 64 GB variant and Rs 37999 for the 8 GB / 128 GB variant. It is the exact pricing of the Oneplus 5 in India and in effect, Oneplus 5 will be discontinued. The new champion takes over the crown from the reigning champion.  We have already reviewed the Oneplus 5 and it is one of the best top-end smartphones out there. The Oneplus 5T is a marginal incremental version over the 5. Here are the differences.

  1. Thin bezels on a full HD+ AMOLED display on 18:9 aspect ration
  2. Fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear
  3. 20 MP dual camera is a not a tele-focus lens, but instead, it helps in clicking brighter shots under low light.

Other than these 3 points the 5T is identical to the 5. It is powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset and will have 6GB and 8GB RAM options. Storage will be either 64GB or 128GB.  The phone size is very similar to the OnePlus 5 that has 5.5″. The biggest design change is the near bezel-less 6.01″ display. The reduction in bezels has allowed OnePlus to cram bigger display into a similar sized phone. Back design is very similar to that of OnePlus 5 except for the Fingerprint sensor. The OnePlus 5T will be available in an early access sale on Amazon.in, oneplusstore.in and OnePlus
experience store in Bangalore on November 21 st, 2017 at 4.30 pm. OnePlus 5T open sales begin on November 28, 2017, in India.

It would have been great if Oneplus has made the new 5T water resistant and increased the battery capacity. With Dash Charge, the battery on OP5 was not a big issues, but it would have been nice to see a beefier battery. But I will reserve my final verdict until I get my hands on the Oneplus 5T. Stay tuned for my review.
