OnePlus X Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update Rolling Out Now

OnePlus X is finally being updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, following months of wait. The latest update to the OnePlus X comes via an OTA update, and the company will be releasing it in an incremental manner. What that means is that it may take a while for the update to reach your OnePlus X.

Google released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update almost an year ago. While most of the manufacturers have released Marshmallow updates to their phones, OnePlus has been facing issues with its software updates due to an outflux of its software engineers. That being said, the company has been more prompt in releasing Android OS updates to the OnePlus One, 2 and 3 smartphones, relegating the OnePlus X to a lower level in terms of priority.

The OnePlus X Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is rolling out in the form an OxygenOS 3.1.2. If you are currently running OxygenOS 2.2.3, 3.1.0 or 3.1.1 on your OnePlus X, you will be able to upgrade directly to OxygenOS 3.1.2. However, users with older versions will have to first update to at least 2.2.3 to be able to update to OxygenOS 3.1.2.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings a lot of new features like Doze, Now On Tap, App Standby, Granular Permissions Control, Fingerprint support and more. In addition to the new features in Marshmallow, OxygenOS 3.1.2 also brings several features of its own. You can now use new icon packs for the stock OxygenOS launcher, there’s a new wallpaper picker UI, Google Search bar UI customization. Additionally, OnePlus has added two new system apps of its own – the OnePlus Music Player and OnePlus Gallery.

As is always the case with software updates, there may be bugs and other issues with the OxygenOS 3.1.2 update. We suggest you to backup your data and media to a different device before you start downloading and installing the new update.
