Oppo launches A57 with 16 MP selfie camera for Rs 14990 in India

At an event in Bangalore today, Oppo launched its A57 mobile priced at Rs 14990. Oppo has been the one who introduced selfie centric mobiles in 2015. While the Oppo F1s has been selling successfully in the Indian retail market, Oppo A57 brings the features of the F1s at an affordable price tag. The mobile has a 5.2 inch screen with 2.5D arc glass. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Oppo A57 is powered by Snapdragon 435 processor and has 3 GB of RAM. It has 32 GB of internal storage. The memory can be expanded upto 256 GB via a dedicated slot, without sacrificing the dual SIM capability of the mobile.

The highlight of the mobile is its 16 MP front camera with an LED flash. At the rear is the 13 MP camera with single LED flash. Oppo’s front camera can give you a bokeh effect (blurred background), which we saw on the Vivo V5 Plus. But A57 delivers a software bokeh effect with just one sensor. The camera UI can detect if you wave your hand before it and activate the shutter for selfies.

The mobile is running on Android 6.0.1 with Color OS 3.0 on top of it. It is a 4G enabled mobile with support for VoLTE. It is powered by a 2900 mAh battery. It is priced at Rs 14990 and will be available in 2 colors: Rose Gold and Gold. It will be available from retail stores, starting February 3rd 2017.

Initial Impressions

I spent a few minutes with the mobile. The mobile feels very sleek and premium in the hand. The camera is good under ample daylight. The bokeh effect is implemented well and the selfies have a good natural skin tone. The price of the mobile is very attractive. I am not sure how Color OS will be handled by Snapdragon 435. Also will have to test the camera under different light conditions. Overall, the A57 looks to be a good mobile and if you are in the market to buy a selfie mobile at an affordable price, you can consider the A57.
