[CES 2015] LaCie announce Mirror and Rugged RAID external hard drive
At CES 2015, LaCie has announced the most beautiful portable hard drive. The premium quality wireless portable hard drive is enclosed by Gorilla Glass and the dock/base is made of single piece ebony wood from Makassar. The LaCie Mirror hard drive is designed in collaboration with French designer Pauline Deltour. Apart from being a portable hard drive, when placed on base, LaCie Mirror add to the look of your well organized cabinet/desk. At launch, only the 1TB variant will be made available. Also, every base that is manufactured is unique. No two Mirror bases are alike.
The Gorilla Glass 3 is made more durable by chemically strengthening and atomically configuring to better survive accidental drops and falls. The 1 TB LaCie Mirror portable hard drive will first be available in late January for a retail price of $279.99 and comes with a two year warranty with an option to extend warranty.
“You have to look twice to discover the LaCie Mirror’s true ambition,” said Deltour. “Covered by mirrored glass, it’s first an elegant and functional object, and only on second glance is it revealed to be a slim high-performance hard drive.”
LaCie has also announced Rugged RAID, a new portable hard drive that joins the popular Rugged mobile hard drive lineup. Rugged RAID comes with Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports and has two hard drives connected in RAID 0 or RAID 1 mode. Thanks to the RAID configuration, this hard drive can transfer data at 240MB/s and move 64gigabytes of data in less than five minutes. When configured in RAID 1 mode, the data on one hard drive is mirrored on the seond drive and this helps in minimizing data loss when one drive goes kaput.
Rugged RAID is resistant to shock, dust and water and can withstand a drop in water (maximum depth of 1.5 metres) and can withstand a ton of pressure. The LaCie Rugged RAID, design by Neil Poulton, will be available in a 4 TB capacity (MSRP $449.99) this quarter through the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Resellers, with a three year warranty that can be extended.
