Qualcomm Snapdragon 653, Snapdragon 626, Snapdragon 427 Announced

Qualcomm is also unveiling three new SoCs today, after MediaTek announced the launch of the Helio P15 earlier in the day. However, Qualcomm has not one but three new launches to succeed its successful mid-range and budget segment SoCs. The American company took the wraps off the Snapdragon 653, 626 and 427 processors today, featuring some performance and battery improvements.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 653

Topping the announcements is the Snapdragon 653, taking over from the very successful Snapdragon 652 processor. The new processor comes with an incremental 10% gain over the Snapdragon 652 in terms of performance and battery life. It also comes with a new X9 LTE modem for enhanced support for VoLTE and Ultra HD voice.

In addition to the aforementioned improvements, Snapdragon 653 also adds support for up to 8 GB RAM, up from the 4 GB in Snapdragon 652. Qualcomm has also added support for its new Clear Sight dual camera technology, allowing companies to launch phones with dual cameras and Snapdragon 653.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 626

The Snapdragon 626 is again an incremental upgrade over the Snapdragon 625, known for its power efficiency and decent performance. Again, Qualcomm is promising up to 10% improvement in performance over the Snapdragon 625. In addition to that, Snapdragon 626 will also feature support for Qualcomm’s Clear Sight dual camera technology and the X9 LTE modem.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 427

The Snapdragon 427 processor also gets support for Qualcomm’s Clear Sight dual camera technology, in addition to the same X9 LTE modem. This means you should find more budget phones running on the Snapdragon 427 now, given that it comes with support for dual cameras as well as much better LTE modem compared to the Snapdragon 425 that featured an X6 LTE modem.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 and Snapdragon 626 SoCs will be available by the end of 2016, while Snapdragon 427 will come out in Q1 2017. You can expect new phones to feature these processors in Q1 and Q2 2017.
