Samsung bring faux leather to Chromebook lineup with Chromebook 2

Samsung’s recent addiction towards plastic that looks like leather has reached new size. A new lineup of Chromeboks, Chromebook 2 now come with faux leather shell and comes with 11.6″ and 13.3″ display sizes. Chromebook 2 series will be available starting this April, 11.6″ Chromebook 2 will be priced at $319.99 and 13.3″ model priced at $399.99. Both models come with textured lid and stitched design.Samsung is bundling premium applications worth more than $100 with Chromebook 2 models and for $30 per device, educators and admins can get web based console that helps them setup great learning programs. ​

“Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing our designs and features to meet our users’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung has been the top selling consumer Chromebook brand for the past three years and we’ll continue to grow our leadership position in this space with the launch of the Chromebook 2 Series.”

“Chromebooks are particularly important in the education space – according to Futuresource, one in four devices now sold into K-12 schools in the U.S. are Chromebooks – so we’ve designed our latest models with students and teachers in mind, including features like rapid start times, longer battery life and an easy-to-grip design,” said Tod Pike, senior vice president at Samsung’s Enterprise Business Division.

Chromebook 2 series will be powered by Exynos 5 Octa processors running at 1.9GHz and 2.1GHz respectively. Both models come with 4GB of DDR3L RAM and 16GB of onboard storage with option to expand storage using micoSD card reader, While 11.6″ model comes with 768×1366 pixel resolution, 13.3″ model comes with FullHD display, both hvae 720p camera, comes with 8 hours and 8.5 hours battery life.
