Samsung Galaxy Note 5 takes the best smartphone crown

Samsung’s Note series of phablets are one of the best smartphones and it is not based on the specifications. It is the S-Pen and the extra layer of user interface interaction that makes best use of S-Pen that makes the phablet line the best for those who use a smartphone for productivity. With the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung has managed to take the Note series to a level that is hard to attain by other smartphone makers, including Apple. Well, we will make a more detailed post on how good the Galaxy Note 5 is once we get hold of a review unit.

When you pay over 40 grand for a new smartphone, you expect it to be a head turner. Last thing you will need is a smartphone that comes with faux leather and fake stitching. It was well known and open secret that the Note 5 will get Galaxy S6’s glass+metal build. While Galaxy S6 looked superb in new premium material, thanks to the bigger size and display, Note 5 looks absolutely stunning and is indeed jaw dropping. Note 5 is very similar to Note 4 in dimension but the new material makes the Note 4 look like an ugly phablet.

Wireless charging is now ready for use. Until now, wireless charging used to be slow and was more like a ‘fancy bling’ than a usable feature. The current generation wireless chargers are extremely slow and as fast chargers can charge a phone from 0 to 60 in 15 minutes, wireless charging was set for sad death. Samsung has announced a new wireless charger that can attain 90% charging speed of wired fast chargers which means that we can finally expect wireless chargers penetrate the market as more and more smartphones get ‘wireless fast charging’ capability. The new wireless fast charging will recharge the phone to 100% in 120 minutes. Given that it takes 90 minutes for wired fast charging to fully recharge a phone, this is very good achievement. To top it off, the wireless charger looks cute. Given the improvements over wireless charging, fast charging and given how cheaper the external chargers are, Samsung has decided not to let users replace battery of Note 5. This is an acceptable sacrifice.

What is not so acceptable is the lack of microSD card slot. 2K resolution display, 2160p video recording capability will fill that 32GB of onboard storage in no time and adding a microSD card slot that can take in high speed large size microSD cards would have been easy. Many premium smartphones came with microSD card slots without compromising on build quality and I do not see a reason why Samsung decided to go against it.

With respect to power, Note 5 is a monster. Exynos 7420 is a very powerful chip and coupled with 4GB of RAM, we ‘may’ finally see a lag-free TouchWiz user interface. Galaxy Note 5 gets the same optics as that on Galaxy S6 and so we can expect high quality photos and videos. The Quad HD resolution AMOLED display on the Galaxy S6 (5.1″) is absolutely gorgeous and with 5.7″ display size, it is absolutely stunning.

So, to buy or not to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 5? If you are looking for a phablet, you don’t have to look for anything else. This is the best phablet to buy. It doesn’t matter what the price would be, get it when Samsung brings the phone out in the market and you will enjoy the attention that will last for a while.
