Swipe Elite Sense – Review – A sensible entry level mobile

Probably I am a bit late in reviewing the Swipe Elite Sense. Better late than never. If you are not familiar with Swipe, they are Indian based mobile company and they are quite popular with their tablets and the Elite series of mobile. We have reviewed a bunch of Swipe Mobiles at GadgetDetail and it just keeps getting better. The Swipe Elite Sense is an entry level mobile with sensible Stock android experience and a sensible product design. So let us dive in and check if this mobile is worth buying.

Design

The mobile has a very nice feel while you are holding to it. It has a metallic look, but is made of glossy plastic. The plastic material used give a good grip at the back. The display has chrome rims and looks very stylish from the front as well. It is slim and light weight. The power and volume buttons are on the left, which is a bit unconventional. The fingerprint sensor and the speaker grills are at the back. The mobile has a bright LED notification light on the front. The capacitive navigation keys are not backlit. The build quality is good and has a premium look and feel to it.

Display

Swipe Elite sense has a 5.0 inch IPS LCD screen with support for 720p resolution. The display is good under indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. The colors are vibrant and the screen is pleasant to look at. Contrast levels are not good. But for an entry level mobile, it has good display with good viewing angles.

Hardware and Performance

The mobile is powered by a Snapdragon 425 processor with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. The memory is expandable, but with a hybrid SIM slot. The mobile does not have Gyro sensor for VR and Magneto sensor for Maps. It has proximity, ambient light and accelerometer sensors. The mobile has FM Radio and supports 4G VoLTE. The fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate. The mobile runs on Android 6.0 and the hardware is able to run the software without any issues. I dont see any lags, but overall the UI responsiveness is a bit slow. It does not feel snappy. Resource intensive games do run on it, but when the graphics mode is set to medium, it runs better. The mobile does heat up by 6-8 degree Celsius after 10 minutes of gaming. For an entry level mobile, the performance is satisfying.

Software

Swipe Elite Sense runs on stock Android 6.0 with little or no customization. In my 2 months of experience with it, the mobile has got several OTA updates, which is a good thing. It talks about the company’s commitment to the mobile. The UI does not lag, but it is not snappy and responsive. Occasionally some ads come up in the screen blocking the entire mobile. This is not due to any apps, as I have installed only the apps which I normally install on any mobile that I test. So the ad is coming from the system and that is not all good. If there is a way to block this ad, this stock UI is one of the best in this segment.

Camera

The mobile has a 13 MP camera on the back and a 8 MP camera on the front. It can shoot 1080p videos. The camera UI is basic and it is slow to respond. HDR mode results are good, but processing time is a bit slow. The quality of images are good under ample light conditions. Colors and details are noteworthy. But under low light conditions, the camera quality is very bad. The images are grainy and the colors are inaccurate. Flash does not help much here as well.

Battery

Swipe Elite Sense has a 2500 mAh battery to power up a quad core processor and light up a 720p display. The battery takes about 2:30 hours to get charged from 0 to 100% using the stock charger. But when I used my fast charger, it charges up in less than 2 hours. Once charged, the mobile lasts for a day of normal usage. Under intensive usage, it gives a screen on time fo about 1:30 hours. Battery life is not impressive.

Verdict

Swipe Elite Sense was launched for Rs 7499 and now is it available for Rs 6999. At this price, it competes directly with Redmi 4. Redmi 4 is a better phone than the Elite Sense in all aspects. For those who are not a fan of the MIUI and would want stock Android experience, the Swipe Elite Sense would make sense. But you will need to figure out a way to block those annoying ads. If you are looking for mobile with stylish design, stock android experience and fingerprint sensor, the Swipe Elite Sense would be a sensible choice.
