Skully P-1 helmet has integrated HUD and rear view camera

Its raining wearable devices these days and in this case, wow is the word when we first saw the video of Skully’s brand new helmet P-1 with HUD (heads up display) and rear view camera. This is definitely something that is highly recommended for those who love riding bikes and spend lot of time on road (and on long rides). Before we say anything, we would want you to have a look at this video:

Skully comes with an integrated heads up (or rather heads down) display from Synapse. This HUD provides data like rear view video, blind spot data, navigation/directions, music playback via voice commands, show caller id and photo for incoming calls and more. Thanks to an advanced situational awareness system, Skully makes sure that you get the right data at right point of time. Skuly P-1 comes with a patented rear view camera with 180 degree viewing angle. As seen in the video above, feed from rear camera is displayed in front of the rider to get better view or surroundings. Skully P-1 can connect to your phone via bluetooth paring and you can control music, send messages, make calls and receive calls using voice commands.

List of Key Features

  • Lightweight, aerodynamic, tricomposite shell
  • 3D laser-cut foam for a perfect fit
  • Fully adjustable flow-through ventilation
  • Anti-fog, anti-scratch, anti-glare face shield
  • Quick release chin strap and visor
  • Synapse(TM) Heads Up Display system
  • Visual GPS navigation
  • 180 degree wide angle rearview camera
  • Bluetooth connectivity with voice control

Though the helmet wont be available for general public till 2014, certified beta testers can sign up here to get a pre-release helmet and provide testing data to Skully. Some might be thinking of the distraction that will be caused by all these feeds. According to Skully, the HUD is positioned outside the primary field of view of rider and appears about 6 meters away. Add to that the fact that the driver does not have to turn his head either way to check those blind spots.
