Top 5 Reasons, why the VU Android TV is better than Thomson 4K TV

Better User Experience over Price Tag

The Smart TV market in India is experiencing flash floods. There are so many options in the market right now and I believe that Xiaomi’s Mi TV is at the center of this Hurricane. Today another new brand has entered the market. Thomson was a household name a few years ago and now they are back in India. SPPL, an Indian TV manufacturer has acquired the branding license for Thomson, from Technicolor – France. SPPL also holds the brand licensing for Kodak and they are also selling Kodak TVs successfully in India.

In my personal experience, I have found the picture quality of Kodak TVs to be really good and a gut feeling tells me that we can expect the same from Thomson TVs as well. But a Smart TV does not just a good picture quality. If the Smart TV experience is not good, a Smart TV is just as good as a non-smart TV. I found the user experience in the Kodak TV to be really bad and the SPPL has adopted the same User Interface and User Experience in Thomson TVs.

Looking around the market for a Smart TV that gives you a good User Experience, I found the VU Android TV to be good. So here are five reasons why the VU Android TV is a better choice over Thomson TVs.

1. Certified Android TV

While most smart TVs out there run on a modified version of Android, there are very few brands which run on the Certified official version of Android. A certified Android version has a lot of advantages. It gets Google Play service, which means you can install all the apps from the official Google play store. Also, it would have inbuilt Chromcast, which lets your TV to be controlled by other smart products in the house like Google Home. Also as the software is directly from Google, it gets better support and updates.

VU Android TV runs on certified Android and Thomson runs on a heavily forked version of Android Kit Kat. Thomson has an app store called Aptoide which does not have as many apps as the official play store.

2. Smart Remote with Voice control

Thomson TV has a traditional remote whose buttons are hard and makes it very difficult to navigate across the Smart TV UI. VU Android TV comes with both a traditional remote and a Smart TV remote. The Smart TV remote has voice controls and lets you search for content with your voice. Typing on a remote is one of the most frustrating things that can hamper your Smart TV watching experience.

VU has put thought into it and has included both the traditional remote and a smart remote with their Certified Android TVs.

3. Larger Memory – 2.5GB RAM and 16 GB internal

Thomson TV has 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of storage. While the 1 GB RAM may be enough to handle the Android Kit Kat on it, the 8 GB memory is of no use. With VU Android TV you get 16 GB of storage and a whopping 2.5 GB RAM. Advantage Vu.

4. Dual Band WiFi

Most TV buyers miss out on this feature. A 5 GHz band is a much-needed feature for faster streaming without any interference. Most basic TVs like the Thomson or Kodak only support 2.4 GHz, which has a long range but would not give a fast connection from the modem. Of course, you would need a dual-band Modem for this and you need a 5 GHz band configured on it to be able to enjoy smooth buffering. VU TV has a dual band and this gives it a huge advantage as a smart TV.

5. Front facing speakers

Though both the TVs have 10×2 Watt speaker, a front-facing speaker always has better acoustics. Rear facing speakers does not give you a rich sound experience as the sound reaches you after bouncing off walls or panels. VU Android TV has front facing box speakers with DTS and Dolby certified True Sound.

Having said all that, the Thomson TV is available at a much lower price compared to the VU TV. Thomson 43 inch 4K UHD TV is priced at Rs 27999 while the VU Android TV 43 inch UHD TV is priced at Rs 36999. But don’t get swayed by the low price tag. A TV is something we don’t change often. The points mentioned here is not just to compare VU Tv with Thomson TV. But you can use it as generic guidelines to choose the best Smart TV for your living room.

If you want a better living experience with your TV, don’t fix your decisions based on price tag. Take an informed decision and I hope this post would help you with that.
