Xiaomi Mi5 vs LG Nexus 5X : Battle between power and purity

Well, this is a tricky one. On one hand we have a phone that provides pure Android experience, is updated much earlier than most Android phones. On the other hand we have a screaming fast and gorgeous looking droid. The LG Nexus 5X, after the price cut to 22k is the best midrange smartphone that money can buy and there is no denying that and will Xiaomi Mi5’s entry going to changes this? For a detailed comparison of  Nexus 5X, Xiaomi Mi5 and Nexus 5X phones, head to http://www.gadgetdetail.com/comparison/mi5-vs-op2-vs-n5x/. Do note that our analysis is based on paper specifications only and we will add more analysis once we get to test/review Xiaomi Mi5.

The Nexus 5X cannot match the Xiaomi Mi5 in beauty and power areas. The Mi5 looks stunning while 5X is just generic. The display on Nexus 5X is among the best, thanks to LG’s IPS panel and Xiaomi is yet to perfect this area. Japan Display and Sharp are yet to match LG’s IPS panel quality. Both the phones are of similar size. What makes Mi5 preferable here is the MIUI 7 OS. The colors and animations make the OS look amazing but then it also makes the updates painfully slow. The Mi3 is still on KitKat while Nexus 5 that was released around the same time was upgraded to Marshmallow. I would any given day take a regularly updated vanilla Android and apply custom skins than take a heavily modified Android and wait endlessly for udpates (some of which are security related and getting those updates on time is essential).

The Mi5 starts at 32GB storage option and it also comes with 3GB of RAM (5X has 2GB RAM and only available in 16GB and 32GB options with no microSD card support). The Snapdragon 808 on the Nexus 5X is no match for SnapDragon 820 on the Mi5. The camera on the Mi5 is definintely better than the one on the LG Nexus 5X and of course, Xiaomi’s is far better w.r.t HDR photography. The front facing camera of Nexus 5X is better than the one on Mi5 and it also supports HDR photography, making selfies look much better.

We had put this to vote and Xiaomi Mi5 ended up being the winner. While I opted for Nexus 5X for the pure Android experience and for the timely updates, Naresh/Giri/Rounak voted for the Xiaomi Mi5 for the raw power on offer.

Sorry, but the camera on the 5x is lightyears ahead of the mi5 – every single test and photo clearly shows that.
