Robinhood launches its free stock-trading app on Android

Robinhood Android

The simple and elegant stock-trading app Robinhood has been launched on Android. Robinhood was launched on iOS late last year and has “hundreds of thousands of customers” and made over $1 billion, and saved users a total of $22 million in trading commissions, according to the startup.

The Android app is similar in most ways to the iPhone version, with a few minor tweaks unique to each OS, such as Android Lollipop’s swipe-to-trade animations. It also includes the display of market hours and market moves on the Android version.

Something else new – you no longer have to sign up on a waiting list to gain access to the app. Anyone can download and create a profile in less than four minutes on either Android or iOS. You do need to be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen with a photo I.D. in order to sign up, though. Robinhood aims to make stock trading much more accessible.
