Microsoft announce Xbox One May update, brings voice messaging

Microsoft has released a new update for Xbox One that includes sending and receiving voice messages from Xbox One messages application, the #1 requested feature in friends and parties area on Xbox Feedback site.  Other additions include the ability to turn the Xbox One on or off using Xbox One SmartGlass application.

Here is the full list of features added to Xbox One with the May update:

  • Voice Messages – The #1 feature request from Xbox One users is now active. Users can quickly record audio message through snapped messages application which can be access by simple quick double tap of Xbox button. The voice messages can be exchanged between Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles.
  • Power On/Off from Xbox One SmartGlass – This feature request had more than 4000 votes on xbox feedback site and will allow users to power on or off Xbox One. The application is already available for Windows OS, Windows Phone, Android and iOS operating systems.
  • User Selectable Power Mode – During initial setup of Xbox One, users can select the power mode for Xbox One. Users can select ‘Instant On’ or can select ‘energy saving’ mode as default power mode
  • Dedicated Servers for Party Chat – As of now, the dedicated chat relay servers for Xbox One was limited to preview members. Over coming weeks, this will be expanded to broader audience. The setup is to solve NAT traversal issues that prevented some people from being able to use party chat.
