LG shocked many last year when they introduced the wallpaper TV at CES 2017. This year, LG outdid themselves by introducing the world’s first 65″ rollable display made of OLED panel. What does this mean? It means that your future TV can roll itself down into a box (like those projection screens in conference rooms). The best part is that the display supports 4K resolution.
Over the past few years, a lot of research was going into making flexible and foldable display panels. LG and Samsung have been at the front and with this new 65″ OLED display, LG seem to have pulled ahead of competition. Two years back, at CES 2016, LG showcased rollable display panel in a crude way where LG personnel carefully rolled the panel and did not show much. At that time, the tech was very new and it was very easy to break the panel.
This time, with motorized roll and unroll, LG can take the demo to next level. If this is what is going to be the future of TVs, it will be amazing. More than on TVs, this kind of display panels will be helpful in environments where there is a space crunch or where the display panels need to be moved around regularly. Let us wait and see if these rollable TVs will come to market this year.
