LG G6 is now made official, at Mobile World Congress 2017 event happening in Barcelona. The new flagship from LG is all set to take on the upcoming flagships from the likes of Samsung and Apple. LG’s modular approach to the G5 had failed spectacularly last year due to some really poor design choices. This year, LG went back to drawing board and worked on a design based on what makes consumers most happy. A Vibrant large display with really thin bezels! It will be interesting to see if consumers will come back to LG this year. LG G6 will be available in mystic white, astro black, and ice platinum color options.
The LG G6 is a 5.7″ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 which makes it longer than 16:9 aspect ratio phones which are mainstream for past few years. The phone is not bigger than the phones that comes with a much smaller display, say, a 5.2″ one. The main reason for this is really thin top and bottom bezels and extremely thin side bezels. The display has LG’s super premium IPS panel with 1440×2880 pixel resolution and thats super high 565 pixels per inch. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 glass protective layer. The body of the LG G6 is made of a full glass back. This is to get the wireless charging on board.
LG G6 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chip and has 4GB of RAM with 64GB and 128GB storage options. Some expected LG to use the upcoming Snapdragon 835 chip but hey, that chip is yet to be released for OEMs. There is IP67 certified dust and water resistance so that you can occasionally dunk your phone in liquid withour fear of damaging your phone’s internals. To reduce the heat generation, LG has used advanced heat pipe design with copper plate on the chip for quick heat dissipation.
LG G6 dimension is 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm and this is pretty impressive. Compare this with the Google Pixel XL with 5.5″ display having 154.7 x 75.7 x 8.5 mm dimension and you know how tight the packaging is. Though the LG G6 has bigger display, the phone is smaller than the Google Pixel XL in all dimensions.
Coming to optics, there is dual 13mp camera setup at the rear. While one is 29mm f/1.8 lens, the other one is 12mm f/1.8 lens. The primary lens has normal 71° field of view while the second lens has wide angle 125° field of view. There is laser autofocus for instant focus on subjects, there is optical image stabilization so that you get steady shots even when there is slight movement of hands. The front facing camera is rated at 5mp with wide angle lens to make your selfies look vibrant and colorful.
LG G6 runs Android Nougat OS with their own UX 6.0 overlay user interface at launch. LG G6 is the first non-Pixel phone that comes with Google Assistant on board. We are yet to see how heavy or how subtle the overlay UI is. We expect it to be lighter (given how the UI is in the past flagship devices from LG). Users can opt for single or dual SIM card slot model. Those who want to expand storage can do so using microSD card.
The battery is rated at 3300mAh. Thanks to QuickCharge 3.0, the phone will charge from 0% to 50% in just 32 minutes and can fully charge the battery in just over 90 minutes. The fingerprint sensor is mounted below the camera module. Other specs include 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi with dual band support, Type-C USB port with USB 3.1 and OTG support. For those who love quality audio, LG G6 is going to come with Quad DAC that was popular among V series of phones (V10, V20 etc).

Hardware
Chipset Chipset is a group of integrated circuits designed to perform one or a more dedicated functions, often with real time computing constraints, Popular smartphones are equipped with more advanced embedded chipsets that can do many different tasks depending on their programming. | Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 |
CPU CPU (Central Processing Unit) mostly known as processors, CPU processes instructions in order to carry out certain functions that make your device operate properly. Processors are often described as the brain of computers, smartphones and tablets, Smartphones and tablets rely on processors to carry out their every task, Processors are an incredibly important factor in selecting any type of computing device, including your smartphone. | 4x Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU |
GPU GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is a single-chip processor designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the creation of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display, This includes things such as lighting effects, object transformations, and 3D motion. | Qualcomm® Adreno™ 530 |
RAM (Memory) RAM (Random Access Memory) is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly, any byte of memory can be accessed without touching the preceding bytes that allows information to be stored and accessed quickly from random locations. RAM is the most common type of memory found in computer systems, smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices. | 4 GB |
Internal Storage Internal Storage is a data storage space (flash memory) mostly used in smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices where operating system, apps, music, photos, videos, files and other user data Is stored. | 32|64 GB |
Card Slot Memory Card Slot is a special slot for inserting a memory card. Memory cards allow you to expand the phone's built-in memory, A memory card (sometimes called a flash memory card or a storage card) is a small storage medium used to store data such as text, pictures, audio, and video, for use on small, portable or remote computing devices such as mobile phones, mp3 players, digital cameras. | Micro SD |
Battery
Battery Type Battery Type => Cell phones run on various kinds of batteries depending on the manufacturer, phone size or shape and features. There are basically four types of cell phone batteries => Lithium Polymer, Lithium Ion, Nickel Metal Hydride and Nickel Cadmium. | Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) |
Capacity Battery Capacity is a measure (typically in Amp-hr) of the charge stored by the battery, and is determined by the mass of active material contained in the battery. The battery capacity represents the maximum amount of energy that can be extracted from the battery under certain conditions. | 3300mAh |
