5 Reasons why I liked Honor 8 Lite smartphone

When it comes to liking smartphones, I am very particular. I am not one of those who fall for number of megapixels or amount of RAM. I prefer good look and feel, lag free performance and clean user interface. The Honor 8 Lite (also known as Huawei P8 Lite 2017 version in other markets) ticks the right boxes for me.  Here are 5 reason why I liked the Honor 8 Lite smartphone.

Honor 8 Lite

Look and feel

The phone looks absolutely gorgeous. Its hard to believe that this phone is mid ranger phone.

Honor 8 Lite is a great choice for those looking for style and substance, combined. Inspired by the mesmerizing scenes of the Antelope Canyon, this smartphone featuring a slim dual 2.5D unibody with stunning light reflection,12 Layers of glass at the back, brushed steel effect finish and chamfered edges, makes it flawlessly smooth. 64GB ROM with external memory

Display

The 5.2″ display fits perfectly in hand. 1080p resolution on a 5.2″ display not only looks super sharp, it also doesn’t drain battery like those 2K displays. Color accuracy is good and you get option to set the color tone to your liking so that you are not stuck with ‘default’ and ‘vibrant’ modes.

Software

EMUI 5.0 based on Android 7 Nougat is super clean and super refined. Huawei has removed a lot of unwanted options/stuff. The colors used by Honor/Huawei complement the display well. There is some bloatware and none of these applications get in your way or bug you with ads and notifications. One of the best features is that the default launcher has an application tray that lets you keep your home screens free from clutter. This way, you need not rely on 3rd party launcher for simple layouts.

Price

It is very hard to believe that the Honor 8 Lite costs just 17k INR. Given how premium this phone looks, how good the camera is, how refined the OS/chipset is, 17k is very compeitive price for this phone. I would’ve got this phone without second thought if it was released before Moto released the G5 Plus (which I purchased to replace wife’s dead Lumia 640).

Chipset

In a world where only Qualcomms and MediaTeks matter, Huawei’s Kirin is getting bigger and bigger. We have seen how good the results are when a mobile phone maker designs their own chip-set (Apple A-series, Samsung Exynos etc). Huawei’s Kirin 655 is more efficient when compared to chipsets that power phones like Moto G5, Vivo V5, Nokia 6. The main reason for this is Huawei controlling hardware and software. Unlike others brands that have to rely on Qualcomm, MediaTek for chip-set optimization, Huawei/Honor can do all optimization in house. This gives Huawei a distinct advantage. It gives the company more freedom to turn their phones and to extract maximum performance out of the CPU and GPU.
