Windows RT tablets won’t be upgraded to Windows 10

Yesterday’s Windows 10 preview event was one of the best events Microsoft has had held in the recent history. The new features and design decisions in Windows 10 seem to be addressing a lot of issues people have had with Windows 8, while retaining the better parts of Windows 8. Sounds good, until you realize Microsoft won’t be upgrading Windows RT tablets to Windows 10.

Microsoft Surface

That is, in essence, sounding the death knell for Windows RT. The Redmond based company had tried to push Windows RT but the inherent limitations and the lukewarm reception that Windows 8 received dampened whatever chances Windows RT had.

According to a statement issued to The Verge, Redmond clarified that Surface Pro line of tablets will be upgraded to Windows 10, but the Windows RT versions of the Surface 1 and 2 tablets will only get some of the functionality of Windows 10. This also means the sole Lumia tablet that Nokia announced will be dead in the water just like other Windows RT based tablets.

Sounds like Windows Phone 7 all over again.
