Google won’t issue security fix for Android Jelly Bean Web View
Google has issued an official statement regarding the Android Jelly Bean Web View security holes. The Mountain View based company has said that it won’t be fixing this issue at all. The reasoning that Google gave is that it’s not feasible. If you are a Jelly Bean user, you’re not important enough for Google to fix a security vulnerability.
In layman terms, Web View is a renderer used by third party apps to display content in-app, without switching you to a browser app installed on your phone. Any app that has an in-app browser uses Web View to display content when you click on links. As a workaround for this, Google is suggesting you stop using apps which use Web View to display content, or use apps with the in-app browser disabled, or load content that you know to be safe. Or you should switch to a browser like Chrome, Firefox or Opera.
Right.
That leaves 60% Android users, or about a billion users across the world, vulnerable.
