Opera brings Turbo mode, tab sync and more in Android update

Opera has long been one of the best browsers you could use on mobile phones. The browser’s Android version has today received an update that adds a Turbo mode and brings tab sync, tied in with an Opera account.

While the browser company shifted to a Chromium base a few months ago, the company has had issues porting some of the most used features like the Turbo mode. Due to this, the company added a new mode called Off Road mode to achieve the same goal. This was not 100% foolproof with websites running in to compatibility issues every now and then. Formatting was often a pain with this mode, but this is bring fixed with the new (old, and original, actually) Turbo mode, that existed in the Mini version of the browser so far.

Opera has also added a tab sync feature to sync your tabs across devices you use Opera on. This will require you to use an Opera account, of course.

The complete changelog of this v29 update:

  • Tab synchronization: new view for synced tabs, new layout in Tab manager
  • Opera Turbo replaces Off-road mode (new compression technology with full web compatibility)
  • Improved Text wrap
  • 64-bit support
  • New progress bar
  • Upgrade to Chromium 42
  • Various stability and usability improvements
