Mi Max launched in India for Rs. 14,999

Mi MaxXiaomi has launched its largest device, the Mi Max in India at Rs. 14,999 at an event in New Delhi. Xiaomi also unveiled MIUI 8 for India at the event. There was a controversy at the event and the fans who had come to the event had to leave as Xiaomi had invited more people than it could accommodate. This was a first in mobile launches that the police had to be called to contain the situation.

Coming to the device, the Mi Max runs on MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The device will receive MIUI 8 upgrade when it is available in India. The device features a 6.44 inch IPS LCD Display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It comes with a pixel density of ~342 ppi. The front is covered by 2.5D glass made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The device comes in two variants. The first variant is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The second variant is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 and it comes with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Speaking at the launch, Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi, said: “We are establishing a new smartphone category with Mi Max. When we launched Redmi in India, we disrupted the market for sub-10K smartphones, bringing in a level of quality never seen before in the country and essentially creating the sub-10k 5.5-inch smartphone category. Today, I am truly excited to bring Mi Max to India where users are increasingly consuming content on their mobile devices. We believe that Mi Max is the sweet spot between the mobility of a smartphone and immersiveness of a tablet, and it will provide a compelling option for users who only want one device for all their needs.”

The Snapdragon 650 variant has been priced at Rs. 14,999 and will be available at Mi.com from July 6 and other online partners from July 13. The Snapdragon 652 variant has been priced at Rs. 19,999 and will soon be available.

The Mi Max features a 16 MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. It comes with a  5 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. It includes features such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR.
