Android Wear update adds Wi-Fi and emoji support

Google has announced a new update to Android Wear that enables Wi-Fi connectivity and adds support for always-on apps. This was announced a while ago by Google’s David Singleton, Director of Engineering, Android Wear.

Google has announced three new major feature addition to the Android Wear platform today. The company says that watches with Android Wear and built-in Wi-Fi chips can now latch on to Wi-Fi in the vicinity. This new update enables the Wi-Fi functionality and users can now continue to receive notifications and updates on their Android Wear devices if the mobile is connected to a data network, far away from the watch itself.

The second major addition is support for always-on apps. Apps can now run all the time and can keep the screen awake. Before this update, only the screens which showed time were allowed to keep the display on, in a measure to save battery.

Lastly, Google has not forgotten about the emoji users. This new update brings emoji support to Android Wear, allowing you to express yourself better. All you have to do is draw the emoji and Google will predict and send it for you.

Apart from the above three features, Google is also adding gesture support to Android Wear. Now you can flick your wrist to scroll through a list if both your hands are busy.
