Nokia Smartphones Launching In 2017, Confirmed By Company

Nokia smartphones are finally going to be a reality, as confirmed by the Finnish company today. The latest confirmation comes after a report directly from Nokia, revealed in the company’s latest investor call.

According to Nokia’s presentation at its recent Capital Markets Day event, the Nokia brand will be returning to smartphones in 2017. The company also announced other plans, its achievements in 2016, and what investors can look forward to in future years.

Nokia had sold off its entire mobile division to Microsoft, in a sale valued at around $7 billion a few years ago. Microsoft, though, recently sold the Nokia division it acquired for $350 million to Foxconn. Latest rumours doing the rounds also suggest that Nokia and Foxconn may enter into a licensing deal, allowing Foxconn to use the Nokia brand to sell smartphones and tablets built by Foxconn.

That being said, another recent report hints that Nokia will partner with HMD Global to launch new Nokia branded smartphones. The report suggests that while Nokia will not manufacture any devices on its own, it will oversee the entire process and license its name and patents to HMD Global. HMD, for its part, will integrate Nokia’s designs, patents and license with Foxconn’s manufacturing process.

Nokia’s smartphones will be launched in the second quarter of 2017, with HMD Global set to make announcements at next year’s Mobile World Congress.
