Apple announces 3 TB hard drive replacement program for 27 inch iMac models
Apple has just announced a replacement program for some 27 inch iMac models. The company announced the program today, saying that “some components may fail under certain conditions”. While the company has not announced which specific models are covered under this program, you can check if your iMac model is covered by entering your iMac serial number on the Apple website here.
This is a worldwide replacement program, that will see Apple replace your 3 TB hard drive with a new one. The company has also announced that this will not extend your standard warranty coverage and is only limited to the 3 TB hard drive. While no specific model numbers have been announced, the company says that machines sold between December 2012 to September 2013 could be affected with this issue.
Apple will contact you on its own if it thinks your iMac is affected and covered in this replacement program. However, if you haven’t received any intimation from the company, you can still enter and check for your serial number on the company’s website here. If covered, you can visit the nearest Apple authorized service center or store to get the 3 TB hard drive replaced. The company recommends you to get the affected models’ hard drives replaced as soon as possible. This will wipe away all your data so be sure to make an external backup beforehand.
