Huawei enters Windows Phone 8 arena with W1 smartphone

This is the day that we have been waiting for a long time. For a while, Windows Phone 8 has become one man’s show (Lumia range). Though HTC started grandly with 8X and 8S, the fight quickly fell apart as HTC started tumbling down the rabbit hole and concentrated completely on their Android lineup leaving Nokia as lone warrior. Though Nokia has not turned complacent, we do like the though of having something other than the Lumia lineup (where almost all devices look like the three year old N9 smartphone) in Windows Phone market. Huawei W1 is the first Windows Phone 8 device from the company from the specs (4″ 480×800 display, 1.2GHz Dual core CPU, 512MB RAM, 1950mAh battery), Huawei is targeting budget oriented buyers (and we hope they soon target the high end market). Huawei W1 will be available this month at Walmart.com and at select Walmart stores in USA. There is no update on pricing but according to Huawei, the device will be available with  non-contract prepaid plan.
“We are proud to deliver a premium smartphone experience to customers at a competitive price point,” said Todd Greenberg , General Manager, US Windows Phone Sales at Microsoft. “The new Huawei W1 is a great addition to the Windows Phone 8 portfolio of devices in the U.S. with its impressive battery life and availability in Walmart
