Micromax Yureka with Cyanogen OS launched – 5.5 inch HD display, Rs. 8,999

Micromax has launched the Yureka today, its latest smartphone running on Cyanogen OS 11. The Micromax Yureka is an Amazon-exclusive, and will be available online only. The company will be conducting flash sales ala Xiaomi, taking the Chinese company head on, both in terms of marketing/sales channels as well as specs-price ratio.

The launch of the Yureka was preceded by a lot of brouhaha – Cyanogen Inc and OnePlus already had an agreement to use the former’s OS on the OnePlus, but it was not an exclusive agreement. Cyanogen, however, went ahead and signed an exclusive agreement with Micromax for a few South East Asian countries, including India. A lot of flip flops and letters and a Cease and Desist letter later, the matter is still not resolved.

The Micromax Yureka is an extremely affordable phone, coming with a 5.5” IPS LCD HD display, a quad+quad core Snapdragon 615 processor and will run Cyanogen OS 11 out of the box.

  • Android 4.4.4 KitKat
  • 5.5” IPS LCD display, HD resolution, 1280×720 pixels, ~267 PPI
  • 1.5 GHz quad core, 1 GHz quad core (octacore) Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, Adreno 405 GPU
  • 13 MP main camera, LED flash, 1080p recording @ 30 FPS, 720p recording @ 60 FPS; front facing 5 MP camera
  • 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal memory, expandable with a microSD card
  • LTE, Dual SIM, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth
  • 2500 mAh battery
  • Rs. 8,999

The specs to price ratio is amazing. And no doubt, the rush will be great. To avoid failures, the company has switched to a flash sale model adopted by Xiaomi. You will have to register to take part in the sale.
