OnePlus One launched in India for Rs. 21,999

OnePlus One has finally been launched in India for a very good price of Rs. 21,999. The company is selling the 64 GB version at that price exclusively via Amazon.in, based on an invite system.

The OnePlus One comes with a 5.5” IPS LCD full HD display, running on a version of CM11S initially, which will be replaced soon with the company’s own flavour of Android.

  • Android 4.4 KitKat with a custom UI on top
  • 5.5” IPS LCD full HD display, 1920×1080 pixels, ~401 PPI
  • 2.5 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU
  • 13 MP main camera, dual LED flash, 2160p @ 30 FPS, 1080p @ 60 FPS, 720p @ 120 FPS; front facing 5 MP camera
  • 3 GB RAM, 64 GB internal memory
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, LTE
  • 3100 mAh battery

The specs are great, whether or not you factor in the invite-based system. It’s essentially a Nexus 5 but without its hardware shortcomings. Cyanogen’s CM11S may not be all that stable compared to Google’s version, but the company has made available a completely stock Android ROM for those who may want it. The OnePlus One also has an active developer community, so you won’t be left out in the cold even if OnePlus abandons the phone, a year or so down the line. Think Nexus-like support.

However, OnePlus Ones sold in India won’t bear the Cyanogen logo, and CM11S on them will be replaced with the company’s own version via an update. Cyanogen Inc and OnePlus had an agreement to use CM11S exclusively on OnePlus’s devices, but Cyanogen abandoned OnePlus in India for a local player, Micromax.
