MediaTek Helio X23, X27 Chipsets Announced

MediaTek is continuing to upgrade its portfolio of System on Chips. The latest additions in its portfolio are the Helio X23 and the Helio X27, two chipsets which come with deca-core processors. Both these chipsets come with a combination of A72 and A53 cores.

The announcement of the Helio X23 and Helio X27 comes after the Helio X30, filling yet another price segment for the Chinese chipset maker. Built on a 20nm fabrication process, the Helio X23 and the Helio X27 combine two Cortex A72 high performance cores with 8 Cortex A53 core clusters.

Mediatek Helio X23 Specs

The Mediatek Helio X23 is built on a 20nm process, and features a deca-core processor setup. It comes with 2 Cortex A72 cores clocked at a frequency of 2.3 GHz, 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.85 GHz and 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz.

In terms of graphics, the Helio X23 comes with a Mali-T880 GPU, clocked at 780 MHz.

The Mediatek Helio X27 is also built on a 20nm process, and features a deca-core processor setup. It comes with 2 Cortex A72 cores clocked at a frequency of 2.6 GHz, 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and 4 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz.

In terms of graphics, the Helio X23 comes with a Mali-T880 GPU, clocked at 875 MHz.

Essentially, the Helio X27 comes with higher binned cores compared to the Helio X23.

In terms of overall performance gains, MediaTek reports that the two new Helio chipsets should give you a 20% increase in performance. Both the chipsets also support Quad HD displays (2560 x 1440 pixels) with the inclusion of support for up to WQXGA resolution (up to 2560 x 1600 pixels) with a frame rate of 60 FPS. Full HD 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) is supported at a frame rate of 120 FPS.

In terms of memory, the new Helio chipsets support up to 4 GB RAM. They also come with a built-in Cat6 LTE modem, theoretically rated to give you 500 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload speeds. Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou are also supported in addition to FM Receiver and Bluetooth.
