Western Digital announce My Passport X for next gen gaming consoles

Those who game on Xbox One and Playstation 4 know the pain of having a 500GB internal hard drive. Most of the games for these next gen consoles take north of 30GB space and this has become a major headache. The alternative is to use an external USB hard drive and offload some games on the drive. But this does increase game load times due to slower USB transfer speeds. It is necessary to have a USB 3.0 compatible portable hard drives and Western Digital My Passport X is one such drive.

Made for use with next gen gaming consoles, the 2TB USB 3.0 drive is very easy to setup, does not require an extra power connector and can store around 50 game titles (large size games). Users can also take the hard drive, connect the same to friend’s console and access saved games (given that the same game installed on the other console).

“Game file sizes are expanding to 36 GB per game and upwards, and are projected to continue growing,” said Tony Tate, vice president and general manager of WD’s Content Solutions unit. “Console gamers are able to store on average only 10 games on the 365 GB out of 500 GB that is available on the onboard hard drive. The My Passport X portable drive delivers a fast and easy way to expand capacity and enables an expanded library of games on the go.”

My Passport Ultra X portable drive is available in the WD store at wdstore.com and at select retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy, and distributors in the United States only. My Passport X 2 TB drive has a MSRP of $139.99.
