Xiaomi to launch Mi A2 soon…

Mi A2 or Mi A1 2.0 or Mi A1 (2018)

Xiaomi is known for its MIUI skin among the tech fraternity, more than its hardware. I flashed MIUI 4 on my HTC One X about 8 years ago and ever since, MIUI has been my favorite skin on Android. But last year, Xiaomi surprised the whole world by launching a mobile with Pure Android, MI A1. Mi A1 was the first mobile from Xiaomi to have Android One OS version from Google. A faction of the tech community believes that the answer to the sluggishness or fragmentation of Android devices is Pure Android and while it is true to an extent, every single problem that Android faces cannot be solved by giving a Pure AOSP Android version to consumers. Better software optimization, meaningful features along with a stable and secure operating system can be achieved with Skinned versions of Android as well. But that’s a conversation we can have for another day.

Coming back to Mi A1, this turned out to the most loved Xiaomi device in India. It was seen by many as the reincarnation of Google Nexus or a budget-friendly Google Pixel. Mi A1 was a rebranded version of Mi 5X, which had MIUI in China and was never launched in India. One year down the lane, Xiaomi launched Mi 6X in China and the whole of the tech fraternity has decided that this will be Mi A2.

As a confirmation to that assumption, Xiaomi has also tweeted the following message, earlier today.

If the assumptions are true, Mi A2 or Mi A1 (2018) will have the same hardware specifications as the Mi 6X. Here are the key specifications of Mi 6X

Key Specifications

  • Metal body design
  • 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio
  • Corning Gorilla Glass 3
  • Snapdragon 660
  • 4/6 GB RAM
  • Dual 12 + 20 MP camera
  • 20 MP front camera
  • Type C port
  • 3010 mAH battery
  • Bluetooth 5.0

Mi A1 was launched at Rs 13999 and it was a huge success in India. Mi 6X is priced at 1599 Yuan, which roughly translate to Rs 16.5k. If Xiaomi prices it competitively in India, we can expect the mobile to be priced at under Rs 15k.
