Amazon Fire HD 8 2016 variant priced at $90

Amazon Fire HD 8 is a new budget tablet targeted at sub-100$ segment. Priced at $90, the Amazon Fire HD 8 is powereed by a quad core CPU and the 8″ display has 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Similar to other Fire tablets, the Fire HD 8 comes with Amazon Fire OS (version 5). Amazon has also announced that Alexa virtual assistant will be soon deployed on Fire tablets. The Fire HD 8 comes in Black, magenta, blue, and tangerine color options.

Amazon Fire HD 8 comes in 16GB and 32GB storage options. The storage can be expanded using a microSD card slot (up to 200GB). The bummer is that there is only 1.5GB of RAM. This should not affect the performance like that on Android tablets as Fire OS is well optimized. Fire OS is based on Android OS but is heavily modified with focus on multimedia (especially book reading).  With Alexa cloud based virtual assistant, users can use voice commands to open an application, control music, read you audiobooks etc. Alexa will be available for Fire HD 8, FIre HD 10, FIre and last year’s HD 8 version as OTA in coming months.
