Yahoo LiveText brings text and video together

Yahoo is making use of all that indie dev talent that it acqui-hired over the last two years, with its new messaging app that combines text and video. Dubbed LiveText, the app is now live in the iTunes store for iPhone.

Yahoo LiveText

“The advent of smartphones led a shift towards convenience and speed. We’ve gone from communicating primarily with our voices to using our fingers to text on glass. But somewhere, along the way we lost the natural flow of conversation. Our solution is to go back to the basics, by putting your words and your friend’s real-time reactions at the center of your interaction. We’ve removed audio from the equation, as it’s rarely convenient in today’s fast-paced world.”

Aiming to bring real life expressions and texting together, this is a rather unique app that lets you watch your friends while texting them. With videos, selfies, snaps gaining wild popularity and going mainstream, it makes little sense for companies to release other similar apps. This new Yahoo LiveText app identifies that problem and works around it in a rather different way, while still making sense.

The Yahoo LiveText app is currently available for iPhone users in Hong Kong. Availability in other markets and platforms in currently unknown.
